At the helm of Damien on Fisher restaurant and Hudson’s Cafe is owner Damien Hein whose dream of becoming a chef was ignited by a poster of a chef in the careers office at his school. Damien did two weeks work experience at the Hackney Hotel and loved it.
He completed a 4-year apprenticeship at St Paul’s Function Complex where he was exposed to a wide variety of functions and weddings. He also worked at Haven in Glenelg, the Allan Group and by age 24, he owned his first restaurant, “Gourmands of Adelaide” in Magill Road.
Damien said he was inspired by former Head Chef at St Paul’s, Natalie Button, who now works with Damien as his Pastry Chef. His favourite food is his mother’s lasagne and his precious time off he enjoys spending time with his partner, friends and his dog Deckstar, going out for Sunday breakfast, tinkering with cars and restoring his house.
“I source my produce from trusted restaurant and cafe association approved suppliers and look for freshness, seasonality and it must be local,” says Damien.
“My goal at Fullarton is to provide good, honest food using local fresh produce, great customer service and to add to the vibrant community spirit at Living Choice Fullarton.”
Damien on Fisher and Hudsons Cafe opened at Living Choice Fullarton, 123 Fisher Street in early 2015. Since then, it has gained a reputation as Eastern Adelaide’s finest dining, coffee and function venue and was voted a finalist in the “New Restaurant” category at the Restuarant & Catering SA 2015 Awards for Excellence.
Damien’s, as it is affectionately known, is attracting clientele from far and wide, including clubs such as Rotary, Probus and Lions, business networking groups, Concordia College teachers, mums’ coffee groups and residents from surrounding suburbs who appreciate good food, an excellent selection of wines – and, of course, great coffee!
It is also enjoying strong support from the retirement resort, recently voted South Australia’s Best Development, plus their friends and family members, who have come to value the friendly, efficient service and fantastic seasonal menus.
